Lessons

Another engaging method commonly used is role playing. Role playing gives students a scenerio where they can understand how to use their skills in an actual situation. In the video below three students act out how to respect someone.

Games are a commonly used. Before the game starts the teacher leads a discusssion about how the game contributes to the lesson. Some games involve movement while others involve students sitting. The clip below shows a class taking part in a movement game called "red light, yellow light, green light" that teaches respect.

Classes may also make lists that encourage students to do some critical thinking. Teachers use different methods that have students take turns sharing their thoughts with the group. The clip below shows a class making a list while taking turns with who speaks.

Students are encouraged to take part in discussions and sometimes they may just surprise you with how much they learned and know.

Another class in the clip below takes part in a game about their likes and interests.

Special thanks to first grade teacher Mrs. Murphy, second grade teacher Mrs. Manosh, third grade teacher Mrs. Santurri and their students for taking part in the making of these clips and videos.

most lessons include a teacher-lead discussion. These discussions engage students to talk about what they know and share their knowledge of the topic. In the clip below a class discusses the importance of respect.

Lessons take place twice a week. Each lesson begins with the students placing their chairs in a circle.
